Did you know that Cherry Blossoms fall 5 centimeters per second?
Happy Film Friday! 🙂
Before we jump into the weekend, your Inspiration Curator ( 😉 ) has some recommendations for your weekend movie binge marathon!
5 Centimeters Per Second
Director: Makato Shinkai
5 Centimeters per Second is a rather cryptic anime film. It’s like a treasure box filled with lots of secrets waiting to be uncovered.
Monologues outweigh the dialogues.
The pacing is quite slow, but for a very good reason.
There are a lot of things left unsaid, but somehow the visuals make up for it.
So it keeps your mind reeling on the underlying messages the director has carefully sprinkled here and there.
I admit that this movie is not for everyone. It’s not your typical happily ever after love story but is rather a story of how romantic relationships fare in the real world. It stands on the premise that real life is relentless and unpredictable.
The wonderful thing about this though is you get to keep moving forward in order to give yourself a chance to gain the things that are truly meant for you.
The first time I watched this movie, I immediately noticed the beautiful and breathtaking animation. One can actually tell from the official movie poster that this would be an animation masterpiece.
Here are a couple of screenshots from the movie. Aren’t they so magical?
You know how art imitates life? This movie is a perfect example which is why it gained a top spot for me. I have a high sense of respect for artists who value small details like these. Can you spot the animated from the real ones?
Aside from the animation, the background music is wonderfully done too! You see, I’m a sucker for piano soundtracks so I may be a bit biased, but I do believe that the soundtrack perfectly complemented the scenes. They made me all warm and fuzzy inside. *blush*
Amazingly played by: Theishter (Fantastic pianist btw! Check out his work!)
5 Centimeters per Second as a film is completely for adults even though it is anime.
5 Centimeters per Second is very subtle in different aspects but at the same time, that’s what makes this movie so magical.
So for this weekend, if you’re looking for a romantic movie but not the cheesy, sappy kind, plus great animation and soundtrack, I hope you give it time. You won’t regret it. 🙂
Happy weekend, beautiful people!
